Challenge

Alex Zono is a Cape Town-based runner and independent designer who built a brand around the feeling of running rather than the performance of it — bold graphics, considered silhouettes, and a DIY spirit that most running brands don't have the restraint to leave intact. The range had found its audience. Stockists in London, Melbourne, and beyond were carrying it. Demand was real. The challenge was production. As an independent designer scaling beyond handmade, finding a manufacturer who could translate that intentional, sentimental quality into repeatable goods — without ironing out the character in the process — is where most small brands get it wrong. The wrong factory produces something technically correct and culturally hollow.

Goal

Our role was to take Alex Zono's existing designs and produce them to a standard that matched the brand's identity — without touching the design itself. Shorts, tights, tees, and performance tops, each built to the spec and feel the brand had established, with fabric selection and construction detail held to the same standard of finish the community had come to expect. A single point of contact managed the process from sample through to delivery, keeping the brand's vision intact at every stage.

Result

Alex Zono now has a production partner who understands the difference between a brand that runs on feeling and one that runs on volume. Each piece comes out the other side of manufacturing still feeling like Alex Zono — considered, characterful, and worth keeping. The production infrastructure is in place to support the brand as it grows, without the growth changing what made it worth paying attention to in the first place.
